It’s no secret that TikTok is the social media to be on right now, with more than 100 million users in the United States, it’s easy to see just how popular this app really is.
With that many active users and the majority being Gen Z, it was only a matter of time before it became the go-to platform for marketing towards that generation. Traditional advertising doesn’t work for this age range.
“Gen Z aren’t sitting down every evening after dinner to watch TV and be influenced by the ad breaks; they are on the internet and scrolling through TikTok on their phone, and you want to reach them, you have to speak their language,” explained Issa Asad Florida entrepreneur and businessman. Mr. Asad is the CEO of Q Link Wireless, Hello Mobile, and Quadrant Holdings, all located in South Florida. He is also the author of 4 e-commerce and marketing e-books that can be purchased on Amazon.
Many successful TikTok videos involve comedy and dancing, don’t be afraid to have some fun with your marketing campaign, Gen Z will appreciate it.
If a young person sees their favorite TikTok creator advertising a brand of clothing, they’re going to be much more inclined to purchase from that brand than if they just saw an ad for it on TV. Gen Z trust the influencers that they follow and believes in what they recommend.
TikTok is seen as the ‘real’ social media. Where you can be goofy and be yourself, rather than social media like Instagram where people only post their best photos. This gives room for advertisers and marketers to have fun with their campaigns and give their influencers more room to fit the product in around their personality.
Influencer marketing is big on TikTok. You could put an ad for your product out on TikTok, but it will reach hundreds of thousands of more people if you pay an influencer who already has an established audience to promote your product for you.
Gen Z trust the influencers they follow, and therefore trust when they advertise a product, which will greatly increase your chance of sales.
TikTok is an incredibly sharable and interactive platform. Consider creating a hashtag trend to go along with your campaign. this will encourage users to create similar videos using that hashtag, resulting in free marketing on the platform. If you’re marketing a new flavored water, you could create a challenge on how quickly someone can drink a bottle of this flavored water. You could even add in a competition element to spark even more interest. Such as the most creative video wins a years supply of this flavored water, and so on.
Remember that TikTok is a fast paced social media and you have to capture your audience within the first few seconds of your video or they will keep scrolling. Marketing through TikTok is the best way to get to Gen Z as traditional marketing just wont cut it anymore. Have fun with your campaigns and involve the wider users of TikTok. If you really want to engage them, consider influencer marketing,
But at the end of the day, TikTok is a fun social media and users expect to be entertained by their for you page, they don’t want to be ‘sold to’ so keep it fun!
